My research interests focus on protest participation. All my research projects converge on the linkage between socio-political structures and how peoples’ perceptions and interpretations thereof affect their political behavior. Be it the large comparative study on participation in demonstrations granted by the ESF/NWO, mobilization via social media, more radical forms of protest envisioned by young Dutch Moroccans or Dutch youngsters or the evolution of protest in evolving neighborhoods granted by the KNAW, the individual and its political behavior always figure centre stage. I designed and coordinated those studies and I am coordinator of the large comparative study of street demonstrations (together with Stefaan Walgrave & Bert Klandermans) and Projectleader of the VINEX/KNAW project. This coordination evolves fruitful, both projects are well-versed and very interesting data are collected.
