Academic reputation

The group’s unique and world-wide visible contributions include Ganzeboom’s work on the International Stratification and Mobility File (ISMF), which includes a wide range of frequently used harmonization and scaling tools for comparative measurement of occupations and education. To the SILC group unique competences also belongs Elzinga’s work on distance metrics underlying sequence analysis, which finds application in a number of disciplines (including genetics) and is applied in social research in life-course transition. Elzinga develops both math foundations and software that feeds this rising element in sociology’s toolbox.
