Onderzoek

Research focuses on public governance puzzles in general and more specifically the relation between trust and control . Research interests are: 

  • the relation between control and trust oriented policies and practices
  • trust and control in regulatory supervision/regulation
  • the relationship between internal and external supervision
  • governance of street-level bureaucrats, public professionals and other frontline workers
  • trust in, within and between (public) organisations

Recent and current research projects:

  • Governance research with regard how youth care institutions deal with (risk of) sexual abuse of children placed under government care. (with Verwey-Jonker Instituut). Report published October 2012. Contract research for Samson Committee.
  • Expert to Peijs Committee on a trust approach to regulating businesses. Advice and report will be published October/November 2012.
  • What are the factors that affect goal-frame switches in entrepreneurs as regards compliance to rules? Subsidy from CCV. 
  • Trust in regulatory policy: how has the Health Inspectorate conceptualized and operationalized trust in its policy from 2007-2011? Subsidy from IGZ. 
  • How are Street level bureaucrats controlled? Reconciling task characteristics with feasibility of control.
  • Private supervision of rule compliance (with Erasmus University Rotterdam). Contract research for Ministry of Infrastructure and Environment.
